POLIFILM acquires SAXA Packaging

Portfolio expansion in extrusion

  • POLIFILM EXTRUSION GmbH completes takeover of SAXA Packaging GmbH
  • Expansion of the product portfolio for food and industrial packaging
  • Polyethylene and polypropylene-based films, incl. barrier solutions
  • Film widths up to 3,300 mm
  • Complete employee transfer
  • Further growth and capacity expansion planned under the Directors, Eckehard Betz and Jens Koelble

The aim of integrating the plant into the POLIFILM EXTRUSION production network is to strengthen the Packaging & Performance Films division. For POLIFILM EXTRUSION, SAXA Packaging offers not only additional capacity, but also increased competence in various product areas. With the addition of the BRC-compliant production facility and the associated modern machinery consisting of 3-, 5- and 7-layer lines, POLIFILM EXTRUSION is now able to supply its customers in the industrial and food packaging sectors with both barrier films and films with extra wide width.

"We can now offer our 5-layer film solutions with a width of up to 3.3 metres," says Jens Koelble, highlighting the new possibilities. Koelble, Division Manager of Packaging & Performance Films at POLIFILM EXTRUSION, will take over the management of SAXA Packaging, which will be renamed POLIFILM Neukirchen in the future, together with POLIFILM EXTRUSION CEO Eckehard Betz. "The site will be fully integrated into POLIFILM EXTRUSION's processes as soon as possible," explains Betz. In this way, POLIFILM EXTRUSION wants to strengthen the identification of the staff from Neukirchen/Pleiße and show that the 37 jobs will be retained, as well as maintaining high quality in terms of products and service. "We have lots of plans. POLIFILM Neukirchen will fully concentrate on films with high functionality," Betz continues. The CEO is not only referring to the expansion of the polyethylene and polypropylene film range with barrier effect, which completes the solution competence in the business unit's product portfolio and also contributes to the sustainable mono-material film portfolio. The plant in Saxony also offers POLIFILM EXTRUSION space for further machinery growth and thus more capacity. In the medium term, the current capacity in Neukirchen of 12,000 tonnes per year is planned to be at least doubled. The quality films will then be supplied mainly to customers in the German and European markets.
