Protection for Glass

Acid Etched Glass

Satin-finish glazing is popular as it offers the best of both worlds: it lets light through, but also offers privacy. Its matt translucent appearance is achieved through a controlled acid-etching process: Glass manufacturers and specialist glass processors subject the glass surfaces to an acid treatment. However, even the smallest particles and splashes of acid can lead to rejections and so POLIFILM PROTECTION has developed protective films specially adapted to the requirements of the etching process.

Special protection when etching glass

State-of-the-art high strength (HS) film formulations give these protective films resistance to the acids used; when they are used to protect these surfaces, miss-placed acid does not stand a chance. Special adhesive systems ensure optimal adhesion during the acid etching process. The film does not peel off, and acid is not able to seep under it thereby ensuring only the intended areas of the glass are etched. These protective films can even resist high mechanical stress and have excellent puncture resistance. Even a minimal film thickness provides effective protection for the surface and prevents loss of quality and rejections.

Safe lamination and removal

POLIFILM PROTECTION has designed its glass protection films for acid-etching processes to be stiffer than other films. The films stretch less and can be laminated reliably and with higher tolerance, even when higher braking and unwinding forces are applied. This prevents shrinkage after lamination, which could lead to separation at the edges. The glass surface is optimally prepared for acid treatment, even with slight fluctuations in tensile force.

After the etching process, the film can be removed in a single piece without tearing, regardless of its width. The removal process is quick and easy and does not leave any residues behind. The production processes mesh perfectly, and additional time and personnel costs are avoided.

Glass protection films for etching processes at a glance:

  • Optimal lamination: reliable application, even with slight fluctuations in lamination conditions.
  • Reliable adhesion: does not peel at edges or corners.
  • Extra tough: resistant to acids and mechanical loads.
  • Excellent removal properties: all widths of these films can be peeled off quickly – without tearing or leaving any residue.
  • Various widths suited to different processing conditions: Films available in widths of up to 2600 cm.
