Continuous sustainability improvement

POLIFILM EXTRUSION increases its score in the EcoVadis CSR Rating again and is awarded the bronze medal.

For the third time in a row, POLIFILM EXTRUSION, a subgroup of the family-owned POLIFILM Group, has had its corporate social responsibility activities evaluated by the independent rating agency EcoVadis, with measurable improvements.

The film extrusion specialist headquartered in Weißandt-Gölzau, Saxony-Anhalt, once again demonstrates its sustainability efforts and had its activities in the categories of environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement evaluated by EcoVadis in 2020. POLFILM increased its overall score by +4 points. With 53 out of 100 points, the company ranks noticeably above the industry average and gets the bronze medal*. The improvement compared to the previous year is mainly due to the significant increase in points in the fields of environment and ethics. In both cases, POLIFILM was able to increase its score by 10 % points.

The sustainability performance in the category environment (70 out of 100 points), which is described by EcoVadis as “progressive”, is realised, among other things, through POLIFILMS sustainable portfolio. In its developments, POLIFILM focuses on well thought-out and environmentally compatible solutions on both the product and the process level. The focus is on participation in the circular economy. This includes internal recycling and the use of post-consumer and post-industrial recyclates (PCR & PIR) in films as well as the design of monomaterial solutions that are designed for recycling.

Looking ahead to the next assessment, the company is at this stage already optimistic. “Our goal is to show improvements also in 2021,” says Dr. Bert Wölfli, Head of Operations & Development POLIFILM EXTRUSION GmbH, who is in charge of the EcoVadis assessments project internally. “Many assessment criteria are already met in our day-to-day business, but are simply not sufficiently documented.” This will change with the publication of the first POLIFILM CSR Report, expected to be published in Q1 2021. “But of course we don’t just intend to make up more points through bureaucracy. There are also many exciting projects in the core areas ahead in 2021, which will support us in continuing to improve,” concludes Wölfli.
