POLIFILM opts on green electricity at German sites
Savings potential of 17,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions
From 1 January 2024, the POLIFILM Group’s two sites in Weißandt-Gölzau (Saxony-Anhalt) and Osterburken (Baden-Württemberg) will be using a total of 34 GWh of green electricity. Several companies, including POLIFILM EXTRUSION, Poli-Coat, and the recycling and circular economy specialist POLICYCLE, will benefit from this partial shift to green energy.
The film extrusion specialist POLIFILM EXTRUSION is thus taking a major step towards its defined goal of sourcing up to 30% of its energy from renewable resources. “In total, we will be able to save almost 17,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions on group level with this measure,” says Eckehard Betz, CEO of POLIFILM EXTRUSION.
For this project, the group opted for solar and wind energy from a direct power supply contract with the partner GETEC ENERGIE GmbH. The reason behind this choice is the high level of transparency that such an agreement provides. Betz comments, “In the end, we know exactly which facilities are producing electricity for us and where.” He adds, “This transparency is important to us because traceability is of the utmost priority in all our sustainable activities.”
